APPLICATIONS FOR OUR SPRING PROGRAM ARE NOW OPEN!
DO YOU EVER WANT TO SCREAM? How can we be true to ourselves in a world that tries to tell you who you are and who you should be?
Women’s role in horror has long been subjected to victimhood, but what does it mean for her to become the villain? When she herself is monstrous?
In this Iteration of Persistence of Vision, we’ll explore the idea of the Monstrous Feminine by watching films that examine the grotesque and feature villainous women actively transforming ideas about power and prey. Films in this series will include A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT (2014), HOUSE (1977) and JENNIFER’S BODY (2009). We’ll use these films as a vehicle to connect to our own Monstrous Feminine and to discuss how our mangled societal structures play themselves out in the horror genre.
PLEASE NOTE: This program is designed to spark conversation about important issues. Because of that, some of the films that will be screened will contain adult situations, profanity, drug/alcohol use, nudity, sexual situations, and violence.

Persistence of Vision is an film education program of the Hollywood Theatre designed for 10th, 11th and 12th grade girls of all identities including gender-nonconforming youth to explore our connection to film, both as an art form and as a means of interacting with the world. By creating a dedicated safe space for an often under-appreciated demographic, our aim is to engage in meaningful guided discussions on relevant themes explored in the film and how they transfer to the day-to-day.
